Doctor Susan Willis recently relocated to the Santa Rosa area and joined LACO Associates in June 2018. She has a wide variety of experience in civil and environmental engineering, from both the public and private sectors, though most of her work has been related to water (drinking water and storm water). Most recently, she acted as the Water Quality Superintendent at San Jose Water Company, and was responsible for ensuring compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act for the system, which serves over a million people. Prior to SJWC, Dr. Willis wrangled data for a few startups in Silicon Valley, looking for patterns in human behavior and enhancing understanding of market dynamics.
Dr. Willis received both her MS and PhD from UC Berkeley, where she studied turbulence and energy dissipation in stratified flows, a research area within environmental fluid mechanics. Originally from Rhode Island, she has a particular affinity for the ocean, and can be found at the shore whenever time allows. In graduate school, she took up ceramics as a creative outlet, and is looking forward to finding a studio in the Santa Rosa area. She also spent a year before college in culinary school, so if you can’t find her, she’s probably chatting with someone in the break room about the relative merits of high-carbon vs. stainless steel kitchen knives.
