Rodney Wilburn, PE

Vice President of Engineering

Mr. Wilburn has decades of experience as a technical leader, delivering well-managed design and engineering projects. He has a proven ability to plan, manage, and oversee activities and operations of design and engineering projects. Mr. Wilburn has a deep understanding of individual roles on a civil engineering design team through advancement from a planner, developer, assistant engineer, registered civil engineer, project manager, to a Public Works Director. His achievements include planning, preliminary design, development of bid documents, and construction management for water, wastewater, water resources, and related infrastructure projects. He has managed multiple large land development projects in the Central Valley that included drainage studies, sewer studies, improvement plans, and quantity/cost estimates. In addition, Mr. Wilburn has performed grading drainage and sewer and other design functions for commercial projects in Reno, Carson City, and Minden, Nevada.

Before working at LACO, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?
“During college I worked a summer as a laborer building trails in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park near Weott. The job was with the Northern California Indian Development Council (NCIDC), and I worked with other Tribal members from the Northern California. Since these were old growth forests, we had to build the trails with hand tools and could only run a chainsaw for a short time each day. To get the logs out of the way we had a hand crank cumalong and block and tackle pully system. It was an interesting summer.”

What has been your favorite type of project to work on?
“Public Works”

What have you gained from working at LACO?
“Experience in a wide variety of projects.”

What is the best advice you can give to a new hire?
“Work on any aspect of any project and gain as much experience as possible all the time.”

What professional/personal growth opportunities have you been able to accomplish while working at LACO?
“I finished law school and got my Unmanned UAS certification.”

What is your favorite travel spot?
“Eastern Oregon”

Favorite movie?
“Howard the Duck”

What were you like as a 10-year-old?
“A nice kid.”

If you had to give a 15 minute presentation on any topic with no prep time, what topic would you pick?
“Photography”

If given the chance, who would you like to be for a day?
“Barry Bonds in his prime. To be able to hit a 95 mph fastball on the inner half – that would be amazing.”

You are happiest when?
“When I’m in the mountains in September with my Hoyt.”

What is the first concert you ever attended?
“Colin Raye – Luther Burbank Center”

The best gift you got for yourself?
“A Hoyt RX-4”

Biggest pet peeve?
“Complacency”
