SunPower Corporation retained LACO to support the development of a 4.4-acre site and the construction of a one-megawatt solar array for the Mendocino Community College (College) campus in Ukiah, California. Throughout the project, we responded quickly to our client’s needs, and provided multidisciplinary support services to support the project’s success. We completed all aspects of this multidisciplinary project on time and on budget.
Our Professional Geologists and Geotechnical Engineer conducted geotechnical and subsurface evaluations to support design and construction of both shallow and deep foundations for the solar array project utilizing both a backhoe and geotechnical drill rig. Our Materials Testing and Special Inspection team analyzed soil samples collected during the evaluation for classification, strength, and corrosion characteristics. We continuously transmitted results from the geotechnical evaluation and laboratory testing program to the design team during the course of the project.
Following completion of our geotechnical investigation, our Professional Engineers provided engineering and design for the preparation of construction documents including the following plans:
- Civil Site Plan/Dimensional Control Plan
- Grading Plan
- Grading Sections
- Drainage Plan
- Construction Details for Grading and Drainage
- Erosion Control Plan
- Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
Our team also provided engineering services for the re-design of the entry road by providing detailed roadway geometrics to allow for service truck turning movements and access to the solar field.
During the construction phase of the project, our Survey staff provided construction staking of the solar array within a short turn around time. Over 750 points were staked within a 3/8” tolerance within a 2 day period. Our Materials Testing and Special Inspections staff provided special inspections of rebar, concrete, welding, and compaction testing. We responded to all requests for testing and inspection within 24 hours of notice.
