Redwood Broadcasting Barry Ridge Communication Towers

Redwood Broadcasting Company retained LACO to provide a focused geotecnical exploration for the structural evaluation of two existing communication towers located in Kneeland in Humboldt County, California. The broadcasting company was interested in purchasing these towers, and had hired a structural engineer to evaluate them. The structural engineer requested that our geotechnical team characterize the upper 20 feet of the site’s ground surface. Our geotechnical team conducted a field reconnaisance of the site and and a subsurface exploration, which included the installation of five geotechnical borings with a geotechnical drill rig. Our materials testing team perormed laboratory analysis of both disturbed and undisturbed soil samples, which included Direct Shear Test (ASTM D3080) and In-Place Density and Moisture Content (ASTM D2216 and D2937) tests. LACO provided a technical memoranum that detailed our findings and provided soil design values including bearing capacity, skin friction, average unit weight, cohesion, and friction angles.
